This year’s International Women’s Day is coming to an end and inspired by passionate discussions with great friends I would like to share a few thoughts with you.
Today and every day I am grateful and lucky to share my workplace with so many talented women who contribute their hard work, heart and soul to Café Susann, who make this place such a strong community and who are wonderful friends.
My team consists of many diverse people, including 16 women and 6 nationalities. Regardless of gender or origin, everyone is paid fairly, treated equally, carries equal responsibility, and is warm and respectful with one another.
I am grateful to not only have the best team in the world, but also to welcome the most wonderful, open-minded guests to Café Susann every day. Nevertheless, sexism in the service industry is a problem that we are not immune to – although my employees and I are rarely confronted with sexual harassment, we must confront inappropriate behaviour.
Today and any other day, it is up to all of us to position ourselves against sexist, racist, and discriminatory structures.
I am proud of my emancipated, feminist friends who inspire and support me every day and who make the café a place where everyone is welcome, where everyone is appreciated for who they are, and where there is no place for discrimination and sexism.
